Venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa was ordained under the pupillage of late Ven. Baddegama Wimalawansa Anunayake. He graduated from Vidyodaya University and soon became a teacher of Buddhism and served many years at the Sri Lanka Monastic College (pirivena) of Maharagama.
Ven. Gunawansa joined the Maha Mahinda International Dharmadutha Society which was set up by his first teacher late Ven. Wimalawansa Anunayake in 1963 and served many rural Indians to heighten their lives through the Buddhist teachings. He further extended his service in Buddhism by moving to the Japanese Buddhist Centre in Sikamgun Province in Japan. Through the advice of Dhramadutha Society, Ven. Gunawansa visited Birmingham and redeveloped the Jethatavana Buddhist Vihara to its current status with his dauntless effort and dedication.
Ven. Gunawansa is the founder of the "Pradeepa Laksetha" Foundation which helps to support many rural innocent children in Sri Lanka.
Ven. Gunawansa also belongs to a group of versatile and dedicated monks who have an equal interest in comprehensive activities to benefit our society. |
